PREVENTING SEXUAL VIOLENCE
The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, a federal law, requires all incoming staff and faculty to receive primary prevention and awareness education about sexual violence. In compliance with this law, you must complete the Respect Boundaries: Sexual Violence Awareness Program.
There are three modules associated with this program:

Section 106.45(b) of the 2020 Final Title IX Rules require the sharing of “[a]ll materials used to train Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process. A recipient must make these training materials publicly available on its website, or if the recipient does not maintain a website the recipient must make these materials available upon request for inspection by members of the public.”
For the purposes of compliance with section 106.45 of the Title IX Final Rules, this page includes all training materials that have been used to train Title IX Coordinators, investigators, decision-makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process in Title IX compliance and practices as of 8-14-20.

The purpose of this website is to provide awareness and education for students and parents concerning sexual assault—what it is, including the legal perspective; what to do if it happens; where to go for support; and much more. The Office of Institutional Equity on the Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne campus works in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance on the Purdue West Lafayette campus, Campus Title IX officers, and Office of the Dean of Students to provide this information to our campus community.
Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne’s Policy Regarding Sexual Assault
Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne’s policy regarding sexual assault can be found in the policy on Anti-harassment (III.C.1).
The policy states:
- “Any act of sexual violence, including but not limited to rape, sexual assault, sexual battery and sexual coercion” is considered sexual harassment and is therefore unacceptable conduct that will not be tolerated.
- All Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne community members—faculty, staff, and students—are encouraged to report and address any incidents of harassment.
- Acts of retaliation against faculty, staff, and students who report or file a complaint of harassment or who assist or participate in the investigation of a harassment complaint are strictly prohibited.
- Any individual or group that violates the policy will be subject to disciplinary or remedial action, which can include termination of employment or expulsion.
- Disciplinary action for violation of the harassment policy can be enhanced if the harassment is found to have been motivated by bias based on race, gender, religion, color, age, national origin or ancestry, genetic information, or disability.

BE IN THE KNOW
If you are a mandatory reporter and someone informs you of an offense that falls under Title IX, report it immediately by taking these steps:
- Ensure your safety and the safety of the reporter/victim; in an emergency or a situation of imminent danger, call 911 immediately.
- Inform the victim that you are required to report the incident, even if the victim chooses not to press charges or file a report with law enforcement; although every effort will be taken to ensure privacy, a mandatory reporter cannot guarantee complete confidentiality.
- Listen to the victim; collect information needed for reporting.
- Report the incident; contact Christine M. Marcuccilli, director, Office of Institutional Equity at 260-481-6109 or [email protected].
- Provide assistance; inform the victim of their option to also self-report the incident to campus police and local police for investigation or to decline to report the incident to law enforcement; filing a report with the police does not require the victim to press charges.
- Refer the victim to relevant resources for additional support if needed; please refer to the following Campus and Community Resources section for contact information and support services.

Submitting a Complaint: Effective and Fair Procedures
Purdue im体育 Fort Wayne is committed to addressing discrimination complaints promptly and consistently, using procedures that are effective and fair, and to resolving complaints at the lowest organizational level whenever possible. Persons who feel they have been discriminated against should bring their complaints to the attention of their department head or supervisor, or seek assistance from Human Resources of Office of Institutional Equity.

Title IX is part of the Education Amendments of 1972 to the 1964 Civil Rights Act and is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education. This federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs or activities operated by recipients of federal financial assistance. Title IX applies to all participants of such programs, including students, parents and faculty/staff members. The purpose of Title IX is to help foster safe and respectful university environments that better protect students, faculty and staff from incidents of sex-based discrimination and sexual harassment, including sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking.
